B-1 GroupNew for 2009-2010 is our B-1 ensemble. Students who have achieved a high level of excellence in our ukulele programs but who are not quite old enough to be in our high school ensemble (A-1), now have the opportunity to further their skills in a group of their own. B-1 students work toward achieving a gold pin and upper level solo skills. These students also strive to achieve A-1 repertoire. This is an auditioned ensemble open to students in grades 4-7 who have already achieved a silver pin. The B-1 ensemble performs as part of the A-1 ensemble at our major Island Ukuleles performances. B-1 Music Directors for 2009/2010Marcello Sequeira "Ukestermoe" is a graduate of the Pacifica Ukes program in Campbell River, B.C. Marcello graduated from the Canadian College of Performing Arts and is an accomplished ukulele soloist. He recently released his second solo item entitled "Covered in OOK". Marcello is enjoying working with our gifted students and is a great asset to "Island Ukuleles".
Melissa McKnight has been involved in ukulele programs since she was eight years old. With her father, Vince Sequeira as mentor teacher, she developed a keen interest in the ukulele. Melissa was schooled on the Doane Ukulele method and was also a member of her father's ukulele ensemble, "Pacifica Ukes", where she learned to play the ukulele with proficiency.
